For the first analysis, we looked at the average Houou game. But, what about the average Houou player? The average call, riichi, win, and deal-in rates? Tenhou's ranking page uses stats from all rooms in its averages, so let's see what the averages are in only Houou games.
The analysis was run over the usual 1,246,147 Houou hanchan games. In these, there were 7,789 unique players to look at. Filtering out anyone with less than 100 games played, to avoid wild data, left 5,626 players. Here's the mean and standard deviation for various stats:
If you can't remember your grade 10 math classes, the standard deviation means that 68% of people fall within +/- one standard deviation, and 95% fall within +/- two. Let's see what this means for each stat, and also look at a few outliers for each.
For call rate, this means that 68% of Houou players have a call rate between 30.08% and 39.08%, and 95% of Houou players have one between 25.58% and 43.58%. Play styles vary pretty widely when it comes to calling decisions. The players with the lowest call rates are ひつまjapan (12.77%), cien (14.68%), and 寿栄広中華そば (15.78%), and the ones with the highest are ダイアグラム麻雀 (68.63%), 4留 (57.01%), and 鳴き麻雀の可能性 (56.15%).
For win rate, 68% fall between 19.72% and 22.02%, and 95% fall between 18.57% and 23.17%. Good defense from all the opponents makes it hard to win consistently. The players with the lowest win rates are るん(pafe) (15.88%), ゆゆ (16.17%), and -avatar- (16.34%). The ones with the highest are リンガンタルパズ (25.58%), 温冷両用 (24.83%), and hatu_ (24.77%).
For riichi rate, 68% fall between 14.97% and 18.89%, with 95% falling between 13.01% and 20.85%. The players who most fear the stick are Ichikawa (8.16%), るん(pafe) (9.19%), and 魁!ミッドナイト (10.03%). That's the second time we've seen pafe. The riichiest players are 斧ノ小町 (28.74%), 麻龍 (25.92%), and ずっと俺のターン (25.39%).
For deal-in rate, 68% fall between 11.48% and 14.24%, with 95% falling between 10.1% and 15.62%. That upper bound is a bit higher than expected. The players who deal in the least are こまちゅ (8.55%), おつかれいな (8.86%), and ゆうかずは (8.97%), while the players who can't stop are やっちゃんよっち (20.27%), chosan (19.48%), and -LKH- (18.44%).
By the way, I only have 79 ASAPIN games in this dataset, so he didn't make the cut, but in those 79 games, his deal-in rate was 7.58%! His alt has a totally normal 11.56%, though.
Last, but not least (I think?), the average hand value. 65% fall between 5,343 and 5,935, while 95% fall between 5,047 and 6,230. The players with the lowest are our call-happy friend ダイアグラム麻雀 (4,558), miyaya (4,631), and (蛙・`ω・´) (4,650). The win-rate master リンガンタルパズ has the fourth lowest at 4,667. The players with the most valuable hands are 龍伯 (6,919), みさお (6,907), and つぉんが (6,764).
Let's take a look at some specific players. First, let's check out the Tenhoui's stats.
Click the image to enlarge it. My dataset starts in 2011, and ASAPIN didn't play much ranked at all after hitting Tenhoui in February 2011, so there's not many games for him. His stats aren't too statistically significant. Shirase, お知らせ, is known for his low-call style, and he claims the spot of lowest call rate among Tenhoui, as well as highest riichi rate. Overall, their stats fall within the average, except for deal-in rate usually being lower.
Here's a few other arbitrarily significant names.
From top to bottom, shory, Dasuke, Corak, DdR_Dan, Iapetus, Daina Chiba, zeRo, Yuuse, Fukuchi. DdR_Dan lives up to his DdR_Dama nickname. Nice defense, shory.
Some other noteworthy things. The player with the most yakuman in Houou is cobehope, with 34 over 11289 games. The player who has collected the most points is おじさん, with 175,102,900. They also have the most games, at 13,567. The player with most games without a yakuman is saki6342, who hasn't scored one in any of their 3,272 games. They've played about 600 games since the end of my dataset. I wonder if they got one?
You can find the code used to gather these stats on my GitHub repo. You can see all the data in this spreadsheet if you want to check on any specific players or do anything with it. Maybe next time I'll do a useful analysis.
鳴き麻雀の可能性 is a fitting name for the player who calls the most.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the Male% in your final table? Percentage of the time they use the male tenhou voice?
ReplyDeleteThat's correct!
DeleteHello! I'm interested in the strategy they use. Does the call rate data takes in account rounds where the player loses? (so they wouldn't have the time to call and that lowers their call%?)
